Overview

This is an online database focused on human rights in Hong Kong. It aims to centralise, organise, and make publicly accessible key information related to the human rights situation in Hong Kong. The database is designed to support researchers, advocates, journalists, and the general public in gaining a deeper understanding of the trends and challenges shaping human rights developments in the city, and to foster evidence-based public discussion and policy recommendations.

The database covers three main thematic areas:

  • UN Treaty Body Recommendations: Compilation of concluding observations issued by various treaty bodies during their periodic reviews of Hong Kong, categorised by human rights themes to facilitate the tracking of progress in implementing international human rights standards.
  • Public Assemblies in Hong Kong: Records and analyses of public events that have been notified to the Hong Kong Police Force under the Public Order Ordinance since 2023, presenting the actual situation and evolution of the right to peaceful assembly.
  • Human Rights-Related News Reports: Curated media coverage and key events, categorised by human rights themes to reflect the latest developments in Hong Kong’s human rights landscape.
